L. Mawby
They have produced estate grown and bottled Leelanau Peninsula wines since our first crush in the fall of 1978. Now they make entirely method champenoise and cuve close method sparkling wines. Many wines are from our estate vineyards; however, they are producing wines from grapes purchased from other vineyards. The current annual production is less than 8000 cases: this modest volume allows the pleasure of winemaking in the style we enjoy - small lots made with minimal handling. VISIT SITE
Leelanau Cellars
Leelanau (Lee – La – Naw) the Indian word meaning “Delight of Life,” reflects what can be seen traveling this Northern Michigan peninsula and is at the heart of the journey that began in 1974 for the Jacobson family who believed this would be a perfect location to grow grapes and produce excellent wine – thus the beginning of Leelanau Cellars. The winery is the building in the background of the image above. What a view!
Today the winery celebrates 35 years of producing award winning wines in Michigan’s Wine Coast now approaching 30 wineries; establishing it as a premier wine producing area in the country. Leelanau Cellars' wines have evolved over the years from the first release in 1977, but the philosophy has remained constant; to produce quality, consumer friendly wines, affordable to everyone.
